The history of basketball started in the invention of it in 1891 in Springfield Massachusetts by Canadian physical education instructor James Naismith as a less injury-prone sport than football. Basketball is played now by more than 250 million people worldwide. Naismith created the rules for basketball in about an hour, and most of them still apply in some way for basketball. Basketball has been around for a long time, and in my family we take it as seriously as church. All of us know how to play, we could pretty much coach it. Which is what half of us are going to end up being since our grandpa and our uncle is one. Basketball is in our blood, and it'll never end.
